Greater understanding of the role that oligosaccharides play in biological systems has led to an increased demand for these materials. SynphaBase has continued to refine and focus its approach in this field to synthesize glycosides. Being at the forefront of this cutting edge methodology, SynphaBase is able to develop and apply modern methods to design suitable glycosyl donors. Two crucial reasons for this include, 1) the stereoselectivity of glycosylation, and 2) the context of the reaction.
During the last 15 years countless numbers of projects have been conducted in this field by the SynphaBase team, including synthesis of tetrasaccharides, pentasaccharides and even hexasaccharides at multi-hundred gram scales. In one project 25 kg of a monosaccharide were produced over six steps. The success rate of these projects at SynphaBase is extremely high and is based on three competences: synthesis strategy capabilities, preparative skills, and understanding of experimental data (during the reaction and interpretation of NMR data mainly).
